Advent Reflection – 11

So when next he comes with glory,
and the world is wrapped in fear,
may he with his mercy shield us,
and with words of love draw near.

– Stanza 4 from Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding from a 6th century Latin hymn

Why is it that when you are afraid, or sad, you start to doubt everything. You doubt the love you feel in your heart, and the love your family and friends have for you. You enter into a downward spiral of doubting everything, and your sorrow deepens. There is an eternal light that no matter what happens in our lives, is there to comfort us and shield us. The light and love of Christ, which never falters, rescues us each and every day. It will rescue us in the future, as the world welcomes the Kingdom of God. Christ’s coming into our world is the sanctification of life for all people. Let us cast away the works of darkness and embrace the love of God made known to us in his incarnate Son, Jesus Christ, who is the eternal light that will never die!
